A versatile personality, well educated, a sports man, a pilot, musicians, highly intelligent person, good legal mind, very good observer with photogenic memory, expert at Indian and western cuisine and many other attributes, difficult to find so many good qualities in one individual.
His English is as usual immaculate, equally good in Hindi and his expressions extremely befitting with inner feeling and insight not only into local problems but also into National and International issues. The late Maharana Bhagwat Singh Mewar saw promise in him and trusted him to become the Chairman and Managing Trustee of MMCF and Chairman and Managing Director of The HRH Group of Hotels.
When he took over after the demise of his father in 1984, The City Palace Museum was in infancy and the buildings poorly maintained. It is no easy task to look after and maintain this huge complex of so many structures. Prelude is an act, which can only be exercised by one who is willing to create, establish and put on to sound footing his heritage. Then have the correct sense to pass on to the right person, but before that and more importantly for a successful prelude is to groom and put into the right groove those who shall take over.
However, Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar put his mind to this job with full force of his personality, knowledge and dedication. Regret to say that not always he had the right persons on hand but he ploughed on and eventually got The City palace Museum on World level today.
I knew him from the days when we were together in Mayo College Ajmer and as he was junior to me, I hardly had any interaction with him then. However when I approached him after retiring from Tea Gardens, he very kindly took me into MMCF in 1995. I must admit, though I had been a Tea Planter for more than 34 years and having worked for James Finlay & Co. and later Tata Tea Ltd., I still learnt a lot from him, in not only administration, but also more importantly in human values, compassion and in dealing with people from high or low positions. He has been a great teacher.
